Thoughtfully, lovingly, Aurora tells the story of an unwanted pregnancy. Alongside her work as an architect, 40-year-old Luisa gives inspirational creative workshops to children. One day, she comes across 17-year-old Julia by the school toilets; it turns out she has unintentionally become pregnant. Luisa decides to help her – in the process manoeuvring herself into a difficult position somewhere between friend, teacher and mother figure. Or does she secretly enjoy playing this role?

Sebastian’s employer won’t hear of it. And giving up his work is not an option, even if it isn’t exactly making this thirty-something’s life any easier.

Destello bravío volgt Isa, Cita en andere vrouwen die los proberen te breken uit hun statische bestaan. Een groepje dames luncht en roddelt samen. De oude María rouwt om haar overleden man Paco. Soms hoort iemand een geluid dat alle anderen ontgaat. Vrouwelijke lusten spelen op, al dan niet onder invloed van zelfgebakken zoetigheid. ’s Nachts en in de vroege ochtend klinkt alles anders.

Dit hoogst originele drama oogt vaak als een documentaire, maar vindt ook inspiratie bij het surrealisme en magisch realisme. Met niet-professionele acteurs, een bijzondere, ontregelende elektronische soundtrack en suggestief camerawerk bewijst Destello bravío dat het alledaagse soms buitengewoon kan zijn.

Liborio, Nino Martínez Sosa / 99´(República Dominicana, 2021)

Filmmaker Nino Martínez Sosa diept in zijn speelfilmdebuut een onderbelicht deel van de Dominicaanse cultuur en identiteit op uit het collectieve geheugen. Hij bezocht dorpen waar het liborisme nog levend wordt gehouden in rituelen, gebeden en liederen. Daarmee trekt hij deze gedramatiseerde geschiedenis door naar het heden.

Blanco en blanco, Théo Court (España-Chile-Alemania-Francia, 2019)

Grotendeels gedraaid in hartje winter op het onherbergzame Vuurland is Théo Courts tweede film een hypnotiserende trip naar de historische hel van westerse expansiedrift. Rond 1900 arriveert een fotograaf (opnieuw een fantastische Alfredo Castro), in het uiterste zuidelijke puntje van Zuid-Amerika, om de bruiloft van een machtige landeigenaar vast te leggen…
